3.8 Initial software setup

The XCSoar software needs to be conﬁgured after the physical installation of Altair, in order to prop-

erly complete the installation. This is an important process. Although Altair comes pre-conﬁgured

with settings suitable for most users, there are personalisations and particulars of each installation

that must be reﬂected in the conﬁguration settings.

The conﬁguration/setup process may include:

• Upload map, airspace, and airport/waypoint details ﬁles for your region.

• Upload a language ﬁle for non-English language use.

• Optional: upload a checklist ﬁle suitable for your region and aircraft’s operating procedures.

• Optional: upload a glide polar ﬁle for your aircraft. Start XCSoar and:
